Top Test Prep Review
I know. You want the best for your soon-to-be college student. Who wouldn't?
You and your child are undoubtedly feeling a lot of pressure right now. Pressure to get into the best schools, your child's pressure to make you proud, and their pressure on themselves to perform their absolute best.
I know all of this because a year ago, I was that student struggling to get a high enough test score to qualify for an Ivy League school. It was my dream! The nail-biting and anxiety of prepping for college applications can be overwhelming.
I was a good student with good grades, but generally I was not great at taking standardized tests. My parents and I were worried that my low SAT scores would keep me out of my top choices for college admissions.
Luckily, after taking a couple of practice tests and doing a lot of research, we decided to make one last attempt at improving my test scores with a one-on-one tutor and test prep from Top Test Prep. I am choosing to share my positive experiences with you so that other families can avoid our mistakes and hopefully reduce their stress levels as their high school students prepare for college admissions.
By taking an entrance exam prep course from Top Test Prep, I managed to raise my SAT test score by 360 points and reduce my stress levels. No amount of studying on my own was getting me anywhere near improving my score by that many points! This is the best SAT prep course available.
Perhaps most importantly, with my good grades and much improved test score, I also got into all of the schools I wanted to! The below review of Top Test Prep will give you all of the details and insights of the process I went through while applying for college and will help you select the right path for you and your student.
When? Start Early! I began my preparation with Top Test Prep early in high school.
Don't wait too long, whatever you do! Improving test scores takes time - even with the best test prep courses around. College application deadlines are firm, so make sure your student is taking practice tests early enough for them to have time to work on improving their scores. At a minimum you will want several weeks of time. Ideally, several months is best.
Why is this the top insight? It's simple.
The Top Test Prep Company helps students all over the country improve their test scores every year, but even they cannot work miracles. You must give your student enough time to work with an expert tutor in order to see marked improvement in test scores.
Luckily, this review of Top Test Prep can save you a step. You don't have to spend a lot of time or energy researching the best prep companies or trying to find a tutor you trust who has a proven track record. You have the best one around, and just need to figure out who the right tutor is for your student.
What else? Prepping for College Admissions Exams is Hard Work.
Your child - especially if they are not a natural standardized test-taker - feels a lot of pressure related to their test scores. Even the best students typically have to work very hard to get good scores on their admissions tests.
What does this mean for you as a parent?
It means your child needs your support during this tough and busy time. But it does not mean you do their work for them, and it does not mean you shouldn't enlist professional assistance as needed. Prepping for college admissions tests often requires professional tutoring efforts to help your student perform their best.
By allowing them the time, space, quiet, and any assistance as requested to study you are doing almost everything you can to help them perform at their best. The most successful students are the ones who work hard, but they also eat well and get lots of rest. Help your student perform their best by not allowing test prep to overrun their life or compromise their healthy habits.
Getting a professional tutor involved sooner rather than later also helps make sure your student maximizes their prep. The more practice and time to prepare, the better.
Who? Top Test Prep Isn't Just An SAT Prep Company!
Yes, Top Test Prep Company does tutor students in improving their SAT test scores. That's a huge part of the business model, and it's the biggest factor in helping your student succeed at the SAT.
But it's not the only thing they do.
Top Test Prep Company also doesn't just do the best SAT prep, though that's the course I took to improve my score. They also do an MCAT prep course for your pre-med student, LSAT exam prep for pre-law students, and CPA test prep for the budding young professional - among many others.
They also offer excellent tutoring for AP, math, and science, if your high school student is struggling in any of these areas. A tutor for science classes along with an MCAT prep course, for example, will give your student a leg up when applying for medical school.
Where? Luckily For You, Everywhere!
I know. Good customer service is critical when your child's future depends on it.
You will get the customer service you need from these pros, 100% of the time.
From the MCAT prep course to SAT prep to just about any other school entrance exam, these tutors offer assistance not just in person. There are hundreds of tutors available from which to choose.
The company customizes your student's learning plan, and your student can work with their tutor as frequently as needed - even if they are in a different time zone! Online tutors offer scheduling flexibility and more options if your student chooses someone who they don't click with right away.
I worked closely with a tutor who lived in my area during the week, and also regularly checked in with an online tutor on the weekends. As a busy high school student, this flexibility was critical to me improving my test score.
I had a rough go of it with a poor score the first time I took the SAT. Each of the tutors I worked with spent time with me on test-taking techniques, improving my math and verbal skills, and helping me understand how my environment impacted my test score. The tutors pointed out I wasn't getting enough sleep, and that I was routinely studying in a shared bedroom where I didn't have the peace and quiet I needed.
The tutors really helped me work through a holistic approach to test taking, and it is with their help I was able to achieve a 360 point improvement the second time I took the test.
Why? Admissions Consulting Helps!
I know. This one surprised us, too. It didn't occur to us until after my first test score was returned that maybe I needed a professional admissions consulting session. Was it worth spending my time trying to improve my test score, or were there other options like more volunteering hours that would help give me a leg up?
The admissions consultant was clear in their recommendation for my application - I needed help to get my test scores up. Everything else on my application was in good shape, but my test scores were going to hold me back from possibly getting into my top school choices.
But what is admissions consulting, exactly?
Simply put, it is exactly what it sounds like. Admissions consulting is meeting with a professional who is well-versed in the college admissions process from start to finish and consults on it for a living. This includes entrance exam prep, college applications, essays, and insights into which schools look for which values in their prospective students.
Admissions consultants can help you and your student sort through which areas they need to work on the most when applying for college. If they need more volunteer hours to get into a certain program, the consultant will know that. If they need to get their ACT or SAT score up for a specific school, they can point you in the right direction.
It can be a lot of work figuring out what is most important for your child to focus on in their application process, and a consultant helps figure out where your student should spend their time and energy.
How? Remember Your Student is Doing Their Best.
And you have done your best to support them, and help them improve their test scores!
At the end of the day, your student is working their hardest. It's as important to them that they get into a good school as it is to you, and almost no one is harder on a person than they are on themselves.
Try to relax. Know that you have done your best by hiring the best tutoring company out there. This review of Top Test Prep should help your student more clearly focus their energy on concrete ways in which they can improve their score.
The flexibility of the tutors and online options, the variety of prep courses offered, and my much improved score made me give them a 9.8 out of 10 score. Be sure to check them out for your future college student and help your child get into the best possible school!
